Shag Rock - Sunbleached Girl

I helped create this music video for local Brisbane band Shag Rock. We wanted to give it a naturalistic feel and bring out the band member's natural personalities. It took us quite a few goes to get the Steadicam to look right, but I’m very happy with the final result.

We shot at a couple of different times of day to get natural lighting that felt tonally correct for the video. This ended up being the winning shot with perfect lighting and a cast (friends of the band) being suitably drunk.

After we shot the video I added some subtle colour grading (we were pretty happy with the look of the raw footage, so it was only a little touch up). I added the animated elements to add a fun little extra layer. There are two main techniques used in the video: small elements designed in after effects, motion-tracked onto the members, and frame-by-frame roto sketches to enhance parts of the scene.

I was very happy with how it turned out. We’ve already got some ideas for their next video.
